On August 10, more than a dozen IXLA student team members enjoyed an exclusive tour of Google’s Spruce Goose hangar complex, a historic building in Playa Vista once owned by reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes. The tour was part of the 3-day YouTube UI/UX Summit.

As CSUN was the only school invited to the facility, our students were thrilled to go behind the scenes to witness the inner workings of the Google/YouTube office space. The day began with a meet-greet and Q&A session hosted by YouTube Lead Program Manager Roy Chen, followed by an immersive tour of the facility, which included plenty of swag items for our students. Our team also had breakfast with YouTube designers and creative leads to get a taste of what it’s like to work for the tech giant.

To round out the day, we were treated to lunch and a live Zoom presentation of the event’s keynote speaker, Erin Meyer, who spoke about her book, The Culture Map — an informative guide to communicating across cultures in our global economy. All in all, it’s safe to say that IXLA’s field trip to “Silicon Beach” and the Spruce Goose hangar was a soaring success thanks to Google and YouTube!
